Amalfi is a charming town upon the coastline between Cetara and Positano; it is a quiet and pictoreque seaside resort with a temperate climate and incomparable natural beauties between mountains and sea.
Its small characteristic streets are wellknown in the world, filmed by famous directors.
When you arrive to Amalfi, you are immediately plunged into a myriad of colours: red or green both with blue and white trails; orange and pink climbing flowers on the wall and verdant gardens. This town has some of the oldest hotels in Italy as well as many modern ones.
On 1st september 1839 Amalfi declared its indipendence and later established itself an Autonomos Sovereign Republic.
Many famous personages took place in Amalfi: Boccaccio, Long Fellow, Hugo, Ibsen, Wagner, D'Annunzio, Quasimodo.
Amalfi area was re-discovered by numerous foreign visitors travelling though Italy in search of exocitism and artistic inspiration along flight of 57 steps, built in 1728, leads to the atrium of the Cathedral dedicated to St. Andrew the Apostle; Cloister of Paradise is reached by turning right upon leaving the cathedral.
To the north you come to the ancient dockyards. First sunday (in June) starts "Historic Regatta" of the ancient four sea republics. A large crowd of local people and visitors take part, in the procession culminates in a marvellous fireworks.
